About
the Stuart Veterinary Clinic Staff.
| Dr.
Rex Wilhelm |
|
| |
|
| Iowa veterinarian,
Dr. Wilhelm, has practiced veterinary medicine at the
Stuart Veterinary Clinic since 1968, following his graduation
from the Iowa State University (ISU) College of Veterinary
Medicine. In 1969, Rex married Hope Petersen, who is a
fellow graduate of ISU. Rex and Hope have three adult
children who also graduated from ISU. Go Cyclones!
Dr. Rex thinks
he can fish and hunt but also enjoys his antique tractor
and other treasures. His most aggressive hobby is a
herd of registered Angus cattle that has been a trial
herd for a variety of production ideas. His most treasured
possession is his faithful Brittany “Tatum”.
Rex has provided
primary leadership for integrating in-house Iowa veterinarian
production animal software programs including Cow Calf
5, Beef Ration and Nutrition Decision Software (BRaNDS),
Estrous Synchronization, and Feedlot Budgeting into
client services.
Dr. Wilhelm
currently serves as a member of the American Veterinary
Medical Association (AVMA), Iowa Veterinary Medical
Association (IVMA), American Bovine Practitioners Association,
and the Bovine Committee of the IVMA. He is a past member
and chairman of the Iowa Board of Veterinary Medicine
and AVMA Council on Education.
Rex continues
to enjoy his veterinary experience because of the optimistic
and friendly, young fellow veterinarians he works with
and also recognizes the contribution of a very friendly,
competent clinic staff.

| Dr.
Shawn Nicholson |
|
| |
|
| Dr. Nicholson
grew up on a small dairy farm in southern Minnesota.
His family raised a variety of animals including beef
cattle, swine, sheep, and horses. He credits his parents
for teaching him the importance and responsibility of
caring for them. Shawn’s fondness of animals,
love for rural living, and passion for learning made
pursuing the veterinary profession a simple choice.
Dr. Nicholson
earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science
from Iowa State University (ISU) in 1993. Shawn interrupted
his formal education for one year to work for the ISU
Animal Science ultrasound research group led by Drs.
Gene Rouse and Doyle Wilson. He then attended the College
of Veterinary Medicine at ISU and graduated in 1998.
Shawn met
and married his wife Dr. Amy Crane while they were in
veterinary school. They enjoy traveling, cooking, gardening,
sampling fine beer and wine, and playing with their
beautiful girl, Olivia.
In his spare
time, Shawn enjoys singing, hunting, fishing, and working
on electrical projects in their recently acquired older
home. He hopes to begin restoring (with the help of
Dr. Wilhelm) his dad’s D-17 Allis Chalmers tractor
that he drove as a boy.
Iowa veterinarian,
Dr. Nicholson, has provided leadership for developing
the beef carcass value and reproductive ultrasound services
offered by the clinic. In addition, Dr. Nicholson feels
passionate about veterinary medicine and welcomes any
opportunity to provide service and educate people about
the profession.

| Dr. Rachel Friedrich |
|
| |
|
Rachel Friedrich grew up on a diversified family farm near Pierce, Nebraska, where her parents raise cattle, corn, and soybeans. Thanks to her understanding parents, she was also able to own numerous cats, a dog, and several rabbits. For her 10th birthday, she received the best gift any little girl could ask for…a horse. She also had the opportunity to show cattle, swine, and rabbits in 4-H. She was active in sports throughout high school, especially volleyball and track. She was even a member of back to back state champion 4x100 meter relay teams and two state track runner-up teams
Rachel received a bachelor of science in animal science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2005 and her DVM from Iowa State University in 2009. She was actively involved in several clubs at ISU CVM, especially the Veterinary Student Mixed Animal Recruitment Team (V-SMART), serving as the club’s president and working to start chapters at other veterinary colleges. V-SMART members work to recruit middle and high school students into mixed animal practice in Iowa and the Midwest.
Rachel is married to Ryan Friedrich, a home designer for HCS Builders in Ames. In their spare time, they like to visit friends and family, watch movies, cheer on the Huskers, and relax with their cats, Mokey and Gus, or play with new puppy, Oz.
